Ranking the 100 best universities in the world
The ranking of the top 100 universities has been published.
British universities are recognized as the best in the world for the second year in a row, this time taking the top two positions in the prestigious ranking of The World University Rankings.
This annual ranking, compiled by Times Higher Education, takes into account the success of universities in teaching, research, knowledge sharing and international interaction.
Oxford University came in first place, ahead of the last-year American champion, the California Institute of Technology, last year.
Thanks to notable successes in improving the quality of research, the University of Cambridge moved from fourth to second place.
For the first time in thirteen years of the rating, two European universities were at the top. The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Swiss Institute of Technology) was able to stay in the top ten, moving from ninth place to tenth place.
Although Trinity College Dublin did not enter the top 100, it is worth noting the sharp spurt to the top and the fact that it moved at once to fourteen positions up, being in 117th place!
Italy and Spain are in the ranking thanks to the success of two universities representing these countries: Italian Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and Spanish Pompeu Fabra University.
The progress of Asians, who are ahead in the ranking, for example, the best institution of Germany LMU Munich is obvious. At once the two leading Chinese universities were higher in this year’s ranking.
There are seven universities in the top 30 from Europe and three from Asia, while last year there were ten and two respectively. In general, Europe is deservedly considered the home of the world’s best universities, because in the expanded ranking of two hundred institutions 101 universities represent this part of the planet.
However, given the trend towards Asian universities and the possible complex consequences of the UK’s exit from the European Union, Europe and the UK will need to do even more to maintain leadership in the future.
