Sports during the preparation for exams help to achieve the best results!

30.04.2019

According to the latest research in the UK, parents should not limit their time to exercise for pupils in preparation for exams. To achieve excellent results, this is not a hindrance. The research was conducted by the Conference of School Principals (NMS). The GCSE results of 1,482 pupils were analysed. The experiment looked at how to combine preparation for admission to an English school or university and participation in team sports such as badminton, cricket, hockey, netball, rugby and tennis.

And what was the surprise of the Conference when it became clear that the periodic shift of attention to sport was only beneficial. Children, whose sports continued in the usual schedule were happier, more resilient, strong and psychologically healthy.

There is a direct correlation between exercise, mental endurance and mental well-being. Sport helps young people cope with stressful situations. Balance is important in the life of any person. Sports classes play an important role in preparing for mental and psychological stresses. Leading English boarding schools have long confirmed this conclusion in practice by encouraging extracurricular activities on sports grounds all year round, regardless of whether the preparation for the exams is taking place or not.

The impact of other activities on exam preparation in UK schools and universities has also been studied. For comparison, they took musical and dramatic circles, classes of different kinds of art. It was established that these activities had neither a positive nor negative impact on academic performance. They didn’t have the same advantages as sports.

All students who scored a higher score during the examination tests, fully engaged in sports during the preparation.

The best private schools and universities in England advise parents not to interfere with their children’s sports hobbies during the preparation for exams, but to encourage this type of activity if possible. This is a good way to balance physical and mental stress in a difficult period of a child’s life. Also incorporating physical activity into the schedule, disciplines young students and teaches them to effectively manage their time.
