Unusual candidate for rector of the British University.

22.02.2018

Hundreds of students at the University of Aberdeen are vying to elect a white cat named Button as rector of their university.

Students are tired of the current administration not paying attention to their real interests and so nominated Button on the grounds that “he is apolitical, fluffy and constantly living on campus” and this makes him an ideal candidate.
To date, more than 300 students have signed a petition to allow the popular white cat to vote, which “will stand up for students, democracy and furry friendliness.” However, the university denies any possibility of electing a cat on the grounds that it does not meet the requirements of the trustee of the charity, whose responsibilities include presiding over the board meetings of the trustee Council.

Alex Kither, a third-year history student who supports the campaign, said: “The problem between the administration and the student community is that very often the interests of students are not taken seriously.” Arguing his decision to support the cat in the election, Alex argues that “despite having a few more cats on campus, it is Button who is incredibly friendly and attractive, and we feel he has the potential to be the perfect candidate.”

The campaign kicked off just two months after deciding to stand down as chancellor over allegations of a dirty election fight by Maggie Chapman. The re-election was called after one of the candidates demanded that a representative of the incumbent rector be removed from the list of candidates because of the scandal related to the derailment of campaign posters on campus.

A university spokesperson commented: “The rector’s role is to represent the interests of students and to provide their full support. The rector also sits on the university board and the board of trustees. Button definitely attracts the attention of our students as a potential candidate for the position of rector, but unfortunately he cannot be elected because he does not meet the requirements of the members of the board of trustees.”

Students plan to continue their campaign, believing to convince the university administration that button will best represent their interests.
